Film Screenings & Dialogues: Stories That Spark Solidarity

Film has always been one of humanity’s most powerful tools for empathy. Leap Forward’s film and dialogue series harnesses that power, bringing communities together to watch stories of Black and Jewish harmony, shared struggle, obstacle, and resilience, and then turning the lights back on to keep the conversation going.

Case Study

At a Baltimore screening of “Fried Chicken & Latkes,” a Black woman and a Jewish man engaged in dialogue about growing up in a Baltimore neighborhood that had once been predominantly Jewish, inheriting the architecture and echoes of a community she never fully knew. He talked about his parents leaving that same neighborhood, and the guilt and grief that never quite left the family.

They stayed long after the room emptied, still talking. The film screening stirred conversations that have been waiting, sometimes for decades, for the right room to begin.
